At least 50 Indigenous People households of So. Tumaruhong, in Barangay Sandoval, Bataraza will no longer walk distance of mountains and rivers to fetch water for their everyday needs.

This after Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) and Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC) through its Social Development & Management Program (SDMP) installed a level-2 water system.

The project (costing P100,000.00) is part of the companies’ health related initiatives and interventions in supporting the municipality and provincial government in battling malnutrition in Bataraza.

It establishes communal piped water system with one focal point that brings the benefit of potable water much closer to a community.

Pino Liawna, a local of the community said that before the materialization of the project, they were fetching water in rivers and mountains.

Nerson Budong, chieftain or traditionally called “Panglima” of the community expressed gratitude for the two companies for the continuous support they are receiving from the two companies.

Said Nerson Budong

Budong added that on their part, the maintenance of the project will be shouldered by the end users as they are grateful to receive such rare project. He is also looking forward for the next SDMP planning as they are planning to upgrade the water system on a level 3.

RTNMC and CBNC has long been into supporting its partner communities through their SDMP and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs as part of its commitment to contribute on the development of the community’s welfare where it operates
